Volunteer as a Reading Partner for DC Students

Adams Morgan's HD Cooke is a participating school in this program.
From the organizers

"Become a Reading Partner!

Can you share just one hour each week with a student who is struggling to read? Become a reading partner today!

By becoming a reading partner and volunteering as little as one hour a week, you can help a child learn to read. We provide an easy to use curriculum and on-site staff support to enable volunteers to be effective tutors. You bring your commitment and we’ll help you with everything else.

87% of fourth graders from low-income families in our nation’s capital do not read proficiently. Devoting just one hour each week to a student can make a tremendous impact. Last year, 97% of Reading Partners’ DC students improved their rate of learning in reading, and 87% narrowed their achievement gap. This year, Reading Partners is partnering with 15 local district and charter elementary schools and is opening opportunities for 750 students.

To sign up to be a reading partner, please fill out the form found at http://info.readingpartners.org/volunteer-in-washington-dc. If you have any questions, please call (202) 701-9110 or email volunteerDC@readingpartners.org."
